Waste water analysis closely fitted trend of persons testing COVID positive--study

Analysis of wastewater is used in many settings for surveillance of SARS-CoV-2, but it remains unclear how well wastewater testing results reflect incidence. Denmark has had an extensive wastewater analysis system that conducts 3 weekly tests in ≈200 sites and has 85% population coverage; the country also offers free SARS-CoV-2 PCR tests to all residents. Using time series analysis for modeling, we found that wastewater data, combined with information on circulating variants and the number of human tests performed, closely fitted the incidence curve of persons testing positive

Germany to trash 200 million COVID-19 vaccine doses

Germany has thrown out 83 million doses of coronavirus vaccines at a rough cost of €1.6 billion and has 120 million more doses sitting unused in stock, even as it is set to receive more jabs at a time when vaccination has flatlined.

RSV vaccine: Moderna seeks regulatory approval of RSV vaccine for people 60 and older

Moderna said the regulatory applications come after positive data from a study of approximately 37,000 adults 60 or older in 22 countries. Its vaccine to protect from respiratory syncytial virus was found in these trials to be 83.7% effective as defined by two or more symptoms.

WHO says reported levels of global COVID-19 decrease as XBB.1.5 seen across Europe, US

The World Health Organization (WHO) posted its weekly epidemiologic update yesterday on  COVID-19, which shows decreases in new cases across all global regions. All regions, except Africa, also reported decreases in deaths from the virus.
